The
Friends organisation supports the museum through fundraising and
voluntary work. They meet monthly during autumn and winter for a
variety of talks and social gatherings. In the summer months
there are day trips to other museums and places of interest both
locally and further afield. Past visits have included seeing
the new bells of St Helen's church, before they are
commissioned, and the Birmingham Backs-to-Backs, an art gallery
trip.
The Friends funded the acquisition of a delightful
watercolour by Nathaniel Sparks. It shows a riverside view of
Abingdon from Fairlawn Wharf and dates to the early part of this
century. Money raised through the events programme has
contributed to other projects, such as the transfer of old film
footage of Abingdon onto videotape.
The annual membership
subscriptions are £6 for one person and £10 for two people
living at the same address. Please contact one of the following
